Luis Gerard is an award-winning director, writer, producer, and photographer known for his distinctive visual storytelling and socially conscious work. Raised in Puerto Rico, Gerard discovered filmmaking at an early age in his father’s art house cinema. His first notable short, a 35mm black-and-white silent film, was selected for the Venice Film Festival. Gerard has directed award-winning campaigns for global brands including Nike, Heineken, VW, Budweiser, Mercedes, and Gatorade, earning recognition from Cannes, D&AD, One Show, Clios, and the New York Film Festival, among others. He directed second unit for Netflix’s Hustle (2022), starring Adam Sandler, and directed the acclaimed short film The Wake, which qualified for the 96th Academy Awards® and screened at more than 40 festivals worldwide, earning multiple awards including Best Live Action at Oscar-qualifying festivals. Gerard is currently developing a feature adaptation of The Wake and preparing his directorial feature debut, Chopper, based on his original screenplay and produced by Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman and Alex Young.
